From transactional

To transformational

After more than four years of study, planning, development, and implementation, the Coalition for Better Health and its Preventive Health Network now have research that demonstrate there is a measurable, sustainable, scalable, and evidence-based way to change health-related behavior that can help prevent chronic disease and improve health outcomes across Tennessee and beyond.

The Coalition, with the support of dozens of private and public interests across the state, created a training and certification program designed to empower healthcare professionals with the communication tools needed to drive behavior change. The approach went upstream to the source of behavior change: personal motivation. Thirty health professionals were trained as part of four different cohorts, including candidates from Cherokee Health Systems, Ballad Health, Methodist LeBonheur, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and One-One Health. The power of behavior change.

Behavior change in healthcare is about helping patients achieve their personal goals, whether related to healthy habits or specific health outcomes. It involves guiding patients in modifying behaviors around their unique objectives, such as managing or avoiding chronic conditions, improving adherence to treatment plans, or addressing mental and emotional health. By supporting patients in these tailored changes, healthcare providers can foster greater autonomy, reduce the risk of complications, lower costs, and improve overall patient satisfaction, making the healthcare system more efficient and responsive to individual needs.

About the Coalition

The Coalition for Better Health was founded in 2019 and has worked with dozens of partners across Tennessee to address the state’s extraordinarily high rates of behavior-related chronic disease.

We are an alliance of business, community, and government leaders focused on improving health outcomes in Tennessee.

The Coalition’s primary initiative is the Preventive Health Network, a program modeled on proven outcomes and real-world experience that can improve health and reduce costs. The program enables trained and certified practitioners to provide preventive care in clinical settings and workplaces to prevent and reduce obesity and tobacco use, the two leading causes of preventable chronic disease.
